OSACH: Planning Guide to the Implementation of Safety Engineered Medical Sharps
Safety engineered medical sharps, or SEMS, are sharp medical devices or instruments designed to include safety features to help protect workers from injuries. We have attempted in this planning guide to summarize in a step-by-step fashion the key issues that need to be addressed as an organization moves forward to implement and use safer sharps. This planning guide may also help health care organizations in addressing the legislated requirements under Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act and establishing best practices in occupational health and safety.

Designed for employees involved in the delivery of home care, this handbook provides information on ways to reduce risk, prevent injury and promote safety in the home care environment and emphasizes the importance of Internal Responsibility Systems (IRS). It is consistent with the standards for home care organizations developed by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.

Revised in 2003: minor changes have been made to improve clarity, some new references to current research on home care hazards have been included, and the musculoskeletal injury prevention section has been enhanced by addition of illustrated exercise instructions.
