When microbial growth is found in a building the growth should be isolated where practical and eliminated as soon as reasonably possible. This is especially important when individuals who are immune-compromised or have respiratory problems could be present. To prevent a reoccurrence of the growth the causes should be found and corrected at the same time the decontamination is being carried out. The presence of Mould is usually related to excessively high humidity, moisture or water damage. Materials which have been contaminated by mould are more susceptible to recontamination than materials which never been contaminated. Health Canada suggests that Microbial contamination covering less than 30 sq. ft. (approximately 3 square metres) can be corrected by properly trained maintenance staff.
